Indication:

Intelence ( Etravirine) is used with other HIV medications to help control HIV infection. It helps to decrease the amount of HIV in your body so your immune system can work better. This lowers your chance of getting HIV complications (such as new infections, cancer) and improves your quality of life. This medication is usually prescribed to people who have taken other HIV medications (e.g., efavirenz, nevirapine, delavirdine) that did not work well enough to control their HIV. Intelence ( Etravirine) is known as a non-nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitor (NNRTI). It blocks the virus from growing and infecting more cells.

Mechanism of action:

Intelence ( Etravirine) exerts its effects via direct inhibition of the reverse transcriptase enzyme of human immunodeficiency virus type 1 (HIV-1). It directly binds reverse transcriptase and consequently blocks DNA-dependent and RNA-dependent polymerase activity. Intelence ( Etravirine) does not inhibit human DNA polymerase alpha, beta or gamma.

Dosage and Administration:

Use Intelence ( Etravirine) as directed by your doctor. Check the label on the medicine for exact dosing instructions.

         An extra patient leaflet is available with Intelence ( Etravirine). Talk to your pharmacist if you have questions about this information.

         Take Intelence ( Etravirine) by mouth following a meal.

         Swallow Intelence ( Etravirine) whole with a liquid such as water. Do not chew before swallowing.

Side effects:

All medicines may cause side effects, but many people have no, or minor, side effects. Check with your doctor if any of these most COMMON side effects persist or become bothersome:

Diarrhea; mild burning, numbness, or tingling of the arms, hands, legs, or feet; mild nausea.

Precaution:

Before taking Intelence ( Etravirine), tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are allergic to it; or if you have any other allergies. This product may contain inactive ingredients, which can cause allergic reactions or other problems. Talk to your pharmacist for more details.

Before using this medication, tell your doctor or pharmacist your medical history, especially of: liver disease (e.g., hepatitis B, hepatitis C).

Store:

Store Intelence ( Etravirine) between 59 and 86 degrees F (15 and 30 degrees C). Store in original bottle, away from heat, moisture, and light. Do not remove the desiccant pouches from the bottle. Keep Intelence ( Etravirine) out of the reach of children and away from pets.
